Patchwork Kites
I have made several kites that I would considder patchwork kites.
The examples shown below fall in these categories. The patchwork
technique allows you to create very colorful creations. It is
important that an overall theme emerges when the individual blocks
are combined. Below I show some examples and explain them a bit.
Other examples are in process (scanning......).
The patchwork workshop (like my
applique workshop) is finished :). Enjoy - and start brewing a
coffee ;).
The first examples in the following are made using the
courthouse steps block as the basis.
This is an image of my Patchwork Hakkaku. The individual Blocks
consist of two halfs in cold and hot colors. Due to their
arrangement lines appear as the overall pattern in the kite. The
individual blocks can be seen in the detail below.
I also made 5 kimono kites using the patchwork technique (3 are
brand-new and will be introduced in Miami 1998 and THEN here on
this web-site ;). The two one shown below use the same blocks but a
different arrangement of them in the kite. This creates a somewhat
different appearance.
A new Kimono Kite made in March 1998. You can see its creation
in the Patchwork Workshop. Basically
it is the same story as with the Hakkaku - the elements are
arranged in such a way that lines appear. These lines are just
arranged a bit different.

- This one is very interesting because it shows you how variation
of the arrangement of blocks results in very different
appearences.
